Dr Rouba Mhaissen

Rouba is a Syrian-Lebanese economist, activist and development expert covering Syrian refugees and forced migrations.

She is the founder and director of Sawa Foundation, a civil society organisation that provides food, education, and housing for Syrians displaced by the civil war. Defending the human rights of people living as refugees, she is the recipient of numerous awards; these include the Queen Elizabeth Award (2011), the FCO Marsh Award for Peacemaking and Peacekeeping (2016), the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for Policy and Law (2017), as well as the Vital Voices Global Leadership Award for Human Rights (2019), the Rafto Prize for Human Rights (2019), and the International DVF Award (2022).
